Pius Makomelelo is an experienced sociologist who joined HakiElimu in 2004. With over 28 years of experience in the education sector, he has worked as a practicing teacher and planner of development interventions. His expertise lies in strategic project planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation. Additionally, he possesses comprehensive knowledge of Participatory Community Development approaches, research skills, and management of development organizations. He is a pioneering champion who founded the Friends of Education Movement, now 21 years old and boasting over 45,000 members nationwide. These members contribute in various capacities to influence change in the management and delivery of education services in Tanzania.
Academically, Pius Makomelelo holds an MSc degree in Poverty Reduction and Development Management from the University of Birmingham (UK) obtained in 2007. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Dar es Salaam in 1996.
