John, the Executive Director, has extensive leadership, management, and governance experience from his current and previous senior roles, which he held for over two decades in reputable national, regional, and international NGOs in several countries, including Tanzania, Belgium, South Africa, and Zambia. Specifically, John has extensive experience in policy monitoring and influencing, strategic management, resource mobilization, and financial and human resources management.
John's leadership extends beyond his Executive Director role. He currently serves as the Board Chair of the Africa Regional Education Learning Initiative (RELI), Industrial Advisory Board Chair of the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), and a Board member of the Railway Children Africa and Light for the World Belgium (Tanzania). His contributions are also felt in the St John’s University of Tanzania (SJUT) Governing Council, where he is a member, and the Finance Strategic and Planning Committee of SJUT, which he chairs. His past roles, including Board Chair of the Africa Network Campaign on Education for All (ANCEFA) and the Tanzania Education Network (TEN/MET), as well as Vice Chair of the Tanzania Country Coordinating Mechanism (TNCM) of the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, demonstrate his commitment to effective governance.
John holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam, an MSc in Education for Sustainability from the London South Bank University, and a PhD in Business Administration (DBA—Honoris Causa) from the Commonwealth University.
