Elimu ina umuhimu gani katika jamii?Kuelekea elimu sahihi

Katika mazingira ya kawaida kabisa ndani ya jamii yetu, Imezoeleka kusikia au kuona watu wakioanisha dhana ya elimu au usomi, maadili, mwenendo au matendo ya mtu. Mathalani, mtu aliyepata elimu kwa kiwango fulani akifanya jambo la ajabu katika jamii inayomzunguka wengi husema; �huyu anafanya mambo ya ajabu kama vile hakusoma.� Wengi wanastaajabu. Hata katika matamshi. Kiongozi mmoja au msomi fulani akitoa matamshi ya hovyo kabisa watu huanza kuhoji usomi wake. Wengi huuliza na kushangaa kwamba, �huyu bwana anasema maneno ya ajabu kama hakusoma.� Kauli kama hizi ni za kawaida kabisa katika jamii yetu na tumezizoea na tunazitumia katika mazingira tunayoishi. Je usomi ni nini? Elimu nini? Mtu aliyeelimika anakuwaje? Elimu ina manufaa gani katika jamii? Malengo ya waraka huu ni kubainisha tafsiri halisi ya elimu kwa kujibu maswali haya na kushabili uhalisia wa mazingira ambamo elimu inafanya kazi. Waraka huu ni mwendelezo wa juhudi za kitaaluma za kukuza uelewa wa nini maana ya elimu, kazi za elimu na malengo ya elimu na umuhimu wa elimu katika jamii, ili jamii iwe na tafsiri sahihi. Kwa maana kwa muda mrefu sasa kumekuwa na upotoshaji wa neno elimu au kumekuwa na uelewa finyu wa maana ya elimu na malengo ya mchakato mzima wa kufundisha na kujifunza.
