Achievements
- At least 74% of HakiElimu’s programme schools have started school feeding programmes, contributing to improved attendance and concentration of all students.
- HakiElimu supported 270 girls at risk of dropping out or transit from primary to secondary school with a start-up pack containing school uniforms and school supplies needed for them to join Form I. In addition, 262 girls received guidance, counselling and psychosocial support and as a result they remained in school.
- HakiElimu provided the technical expertise and support to the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups in collaboration with the line ministries responsible for education to review the guidelines on establishment and running of the Child Protection Desks for in and out of school children and production of 10,000 copies that were distributed to schools after the official launch by the Minister of CDGWSP on 16 June 2022, during the Day of African Child commemorations.

- Findings from the ‘State of Violence Against School Children in Mainland Tanzania’ study provided situational analysis on the special education needs, specifically for girls in the new National Strategy for Inclusive Education (2021/22-25/2026).

- In the first half of 2022, a total of 142 cases were reported by students using the “Sauti Yangu” boxes, mainly on gender-based violence, physical abuse, bullying, and child labour which were effectively handled by the school management in collaboration with the school committee.
- As a result of training on how to sew re-usable sanitary pads, a total of 2,132 pads were produced and distributed among 1260 girls who otherwise would have missed classes during menses due to lack of sanitary pads.
- Citizens in Tabora Region raised a total of TSh 275,000 in an auction of re-usable sanitary pads made by students and handed over to P-VAC club members in Itojanda School as capital for more pads and provide to girls from vulnerable backgrounds.
- Amendment of the Statistics Act which removed restrictions NGO’s to undertake and publish research findings to enable evidence-based advocacy for policy influencing.
- Enactment of the Teachers Professional Board Act 2018 to promote the development of the teaching profession in Tanzania.
- Budget allocation for the construction of 15,000 classrooms to support access of 675,000 students in lower secondary education
- Strengthened the implementation of the National Strategy for Inclusive Education (NSIE).
- Preparation of the new NSIE to ensure it delivers for marginalized groups.


- Improvement of teaching and learning environments for pre-primary classrooms through teacher training in child-centred approaches.
- Separation of higher education loans from the basic education budget, which currently skews the investment in basic education.
- Revision of the capitation grant computation formula to ensure its adequate to meet school needs especially for girls and children with disabilities.
- Improvement of national budget transparency through engagement with the Budget Committee and Ministry of Finance.
- Procurement and distribution of 38,004 books (15,800 Braille and 22,204 with enlarged text) for special learning needs.
